Riverside Partners is a Boston-based private equity firm with deep connections to Harvard Business School, that invests in growing middle market healthcare and technology-oriented companies. For two decades, the firm has provided owners with liquidity, and it has specialized as trusted advisers in leveraging its deep industry and operational expertise to partner with management teams and accelerate growth.

Michael Gorriaran of Veo Consulting Group was invited to join the Riverside Technology Advisory Board to advise the firm on industry trends and deeply engaging in M&A analysis as well as post M&A integration and operational optimization. He has been instrumental to the thinking and execution of a variety of M&A opportunities.

CSP started their business as a network reseller, server and desktop management provider to SMB IT. This newly organized CSP Division provided the organizational structure needed to extend the horizons of the company,enabling the firm to expand into many new online business services including Private Cloud, Managed Cloud Services and Online Support Services.

Gorriaran was invited to advise the CEO after the organization decided to reposition the business with new cloud services offerings. Lending insights from Microsoft on transitioning a Software and Professional Services business into a Managed Cloud Services Provider, they considered various cloud services options and go-to-market strategies. The ensuing plans enabled CSP to expand the array of services offered to existing and new clients, materially changing the nature of their client engagements, partner relationships and the overall size of the company.


Michael and his team at VCG gave us practical advice and realistic plans that enabled us to reimagine our business at a critical juncture in the industry’s transition to cloud services. He helped us internalize the compelling business opportunity that laid ahead with our transition.

Mobile Payment Network Solution and automated Digital Marketing Platform for the Internet-of-Things (IoT) environment

Our client invested two years on the technical development of a newly patented method to enable traditional standalone MBD-based vending machines to communicate with Android or Apple mobile phone applications to transact sales.  The concept was based on reducing the friction associated with cash based purchases of beverages and food products in vending machines.  

The firm revised its strategic vision, product roadmap and go-to-market strategy, to reposition itself as an IoT solution provider. The business developed a cloud-based mobile solution for standalone vending machines that would allow it to gather machine data on inventory and sales revenue, as well as transact business over mobile devices for any type of cash-based, coin-operated equipment. The firm also developed a cloud-based central marketing platform to drive B2C consumer promotions and deliver marketing analytics. 

These product roadmap changes and a revised GTM plan significantly changed the company's market potential, making the business more compelling to end-users, operators, CPG partners and investors.

MNC telecommunications shifting its business to the cloud. This sustained client engagement contained significant cultural change management planning across R&D, Engineering, Marketing, Sales and Partner ecosystem, as well as a fundamental change in their business model structure.  

The client company was going through a major digital transformation process across the entire organization to digitize both its products, operations and go-to-market functions, moving aggressively to the cloud on a global basis. They came to realize over time that they lacked a clear vision of top-level transformation design to support the breadth of organizational change required by the company.  The firm was particularly interested in understanding the top-level transformation design as well as how to carry out transformation simultaneously in dimensions of culture, business operation, organization structure, GTM execution, internal processes and IT.
